Lactation Counseling

The Lactation Counseling Program at Sanford Vermillion is designed to support your breastfeeding needs and goals for feeding your baby.

The program includes:
  • One prenatal visit (around 36 weeks pregnant), a one-on-one counseling session to answer any questions before delivery
  • In-hospital counseling and support after delivery as needed
  • Post-natal follow-up phone calls and if needed, an in-home visit for further support
Expectant mothers considering breastfeeding are fortunate to have the expertise of a trained lactation counselor at Sanford Hospital Vermillion. Certified Lactation Counselors, Heidi Waters, RN, CLC and Kay Hoesing, RN are available to provide this support.

Heidi and Kay are thrilled to bring this important opportunity for education and counseling to expectant and delivering mothers in the area.

"This is such an important decision for every expectant mother. It is very exciting to a part of that process and witness the instant gratification of a mother and baby bonding in this very special and personal way," comments Water. "We enjoy giving mothers, in the first weeks after delivery, such specialized support; a need that women even ten to twenty years ago never had," added Hoesing.
